I was really intrigued and convinced I was going to take their training and start piercing.

And here I am five months later and have not started due to a fear of putting holes in people's ears, but they totally eased my fears and I'm going for it. So you're interested in adding this amazing service to your permanent jewelry business. This is the episode to listen to. All right. Hey, ladies. I'm so glad you're here today.

Thanks for having us. We're so excited. So excited to be here. Whoever wants to go first. I mean, this is our, we were talking before we had the call. This is our first time I've had two guests in different locations. We're all in different states, the three of us, which is exciting. Whoever wants to go first, just introduce yourself and kind of tell us a little bit about you.

It'd be awesome. I'll let you go Callie first.

Kali Hammer: So my name's Callie Hammer. I am located in Bowling Green, Ohio, which is a small little college town. And I started my business by spray tanning. So Chrissy and I are both spray tan artists first and foremost. And we kind of met through a networking group and started talking on the side and just kind of quickly became BFFs.

And we're actually about eight and a half hours apart. So, uh, we talk every single day and We started talking about adding ear piercing to our business and quickly learned that it would be an amazing thing to add for our businesses. And so we kind of took the leap together, went through a training and decided to add ear piercing.

And then we decided we wanted to bring it to other spray tan artists. And then now we've gone to permanent jewelry artists at boutique owners. Um, and it's kind of exploded, but I have a downtown location where I'm located. So I do, um, spray tan. spray tanning, teeth whitening, ear piercing, permanent jewelry, and a few other fun things.

So we're just excited to be here and this opportunity for, for permanent jewelry artists is huge. It's really been a game changer for a lot of our students who signed up with us at PJX. So we're just excited to talk to you about it, which is where we met you. Yes.

Jen Thyrion: So amazing. I love it.

Krissy Cressler: Callie, you did a great job, girl.

She always does. I love it. I love it. My name is Chrissy Kressler and I am located in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. And so I'm a mama of six kiddos. And so it's not, it's always busy. My oldest son has down syndrome and is the reason why I am who I am today because he's nonverbal and Callie and I actually, when we connected, we connected on that too a little bit.

And so that was just kind of one of those things when you meet someone. Somebody, and you know that the dear Lord has put them in your lives for a reason. You just get that feeling. And ever since the day that I met Callie, that is just how I continue to feel every day, just blessed by our relationship.

Even though we're eight hours apart, you know, it's kind of hard because we'd love to be able to fly on a plane and get to each other, but we do the best. We absolutely can working together from a distance for all of our students. And so I have a shop in Shippensburg. I've been a spray tan artist for 11 years.

t into spray tanning world in:

So we do the teeth whitening was one of the things I added first. We added the foot soaks and we do the ear and nose piercing and more things to come. Uh, I do sublease here too, like Callie does. We have other girls that offer amazing beauty services, but one thing's for sure that we noticed was that there was something missing for spray tan artists and really in general, because there's always this thing where we call the down season.

And the slow season. And so when Callie and I started talking about ear piercing and what it could do for our businesses, we quickly learned what money it was bringing into us. And we knew that we had to figure out a way to bring this to more people, not just spray tan artists, but allow them to understand too, that those ebbs and flows of business can completely change when you add an additional service that can really just take your revenue to another level.

So we're pretty excited. We've been, I think. Kelly, it's going to be two years in January of Pierce by Blow. So yeah, it's been an exciting time.

Jen Thyrion: So what, what made you decide to actually offer the training?

Kali Hammer: You know, when we went through our training, both at the same time, we, we noticed it was, it was lacking.

We did actually a few different trainings and it was very minimal. And so. You know, when Chrissy and I started doing it and saw that our revenue was just really like people were coming in that it was completely changing the demographic for both of us as well. So we were getting new people in and then, you know, kids were coming in and then we were getting their moms to get spray tans, but it's just, I feel like we wanted to create something where people felt very educated and comfortable because we did not feel comfortable when we started.

So our whole goal is really for our students to feel comfortable and confident moving forward in their piercing journey. And I think we do a really good job. We continue to add. trainings like we have modules now, which is really cool. So our students can kind of work at their own pace, but we're always adding things.

So our students are the best educated that we can have them because we want them out there, you know, doing pop ups and doing events and being in their salons or their boutiques. And we want them to be the best at piercing and just creating that memorable experience for a lot of their customers and clients.

Jen Thyrion: So how do you deal with like different, is there different regulations in each state? Like how does it work with piercing?

Kali Hammer: So it's actually each county. So that's the crazy thing. So I'm in Ohio and you know, we're very regulated in Ohio, so I can only pierce lobes where I am. And Chrissy actually is in Pennsylvania and they are a little bit more lenient.

She can pierce the lobes, cartilage, noses. So we just recommend that if a student is interested in our training, that they reach out to their local health department and just kind of ask what the regulations are. We guide you through that. We give you verbiage to give to your local health department. And we're here to support you, but it's kind of your responsibility to reach out.

And if you're doing a pop up in another county, if you're, you know, a permanent jewelry artist, we want you to be reaching out to your county health departments where you're traveling as well, because we do not want our students out there, you know, breaking the law. We want to make sure that they're doing things by the rules.

Jen Thyrion: When I met you girls, like I thought this is such a great idea. And I, it was funny cause I actually, I'm meeting with her tomorrow, Tenley with spray. Yeah. Yes. So she is in Castle Rock as well and she was at, she remember her at your table and I already got my piercing from you the day before, I think. And I was like showing my girl Ashley, or maybe it was before that.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. I was showing my girl Ashley that I was with. Cause she also got a piercing from you guys. Like being like, Hey, like, Oh my God, should we do this? And, and Tenley was at your table. And I'm like, I'm doing this too, you know, cause we're in the same like city or, you know, town. And she's like, are you really?

And I haven't, I never, of course have, I have not done it yet, but she has, and she's been really successful. We actually did an event where we had vendors. I put on this event with an influencer twice a year and we asked her to be there with like fairy hair and piercing. And she was just busy nonstop. So she's loving it, but okay.

But going back to what my original question actually, before I went on a tangent. Do you have to get like licensed though? Like knowing your regulations in your county, is there anything you need to do? Or is every county different when it comes to that?

Krissy Cressler: Yeah, every, every county is different. So that's why it's, it's impossible for Callie and I to know every state and every county's regulations, right?

And what their requirements are. So that's why we do help give you the proper verbiage to go to them, communicate, If you're struggling through that, we can help guide you too. So it's not like, oh, I'm not getting anywhere. I'm done. I'm not even going to do any more research. No, let us help you because sometimes it's just a matter of getting on the phone with your person that is handling that area and just guiding them through that to check because we kind of fall into a gray area in some counties.

And what that means is we are not a body piercer, right? We're not using hollow needle. But we're also not using the old standard guns that they refer to. We are using an FDA approved class one medical grade device. And all of our stuff is manufactured in a medical grade facility, which sets us completely apart from anything else that people are used to.

And so, because of that, you know, doctors and nurses utilize this. It kind of falls under a gray area under what you would consider piercing. Uh, so we kind of have to do a little bit more of explaining and that copy paste little thing we give to our students is really quick. It's educated and it allows them to go, Hmm, okay, this is different.

It's hand pressurized. It's, it's a different type of process. You know, it's gentle through what we're used to. Uh, so yeah.

Jen Thyrion: Yeah, because I think when people see what you're holding, they just assume it's like that gun that everyone talks about that isn't. So what, what makes that gun that people talk about not the best way to get pierced?

Like, what, what is it about that gun?

Kali Hammer: So the old spring loaded guns, there's a few. differences between ours. Number one, they go through with extreme speed and cause a lot of trauma to the ear. And they also had a lot of cross contamination issues. So basically they would load the earring in and then they would pierce someone and then they wouldn't clean it in between.

And so obviously cross contamination can happen that way. But how our device works is we have pre sterilized Cartridges that we actually put in our device pierce and then those are disposable. So nothing on our actual device actually ever touches our client's ears. So we don't have that issue with the cross contamination.

We also have patented backs on our earrings that are rounded. So you can't over tighten them like the old school, like butterfly backs. And we just love our backs for that reason. Number one, they're rounded. The kids don't say they're pokey. I wear them constantly now that I feel like I'm addicted to them because I just love the rounded piece of it.

Yeah. Um, and I also like that, you know, the kids can't pull them out. They, you can pull them, but it's very hard to pull them off. So we call them pediatric safe. So our kids, you know, don't pull them off and eat them. If you're piercing babies or, or young children. Is there anything else I missed Chrissy, as far as the differences with the spring loaded?

No, I think the

Krissy Cressler: hand pressured part of our device is. Is probably what everybody loves best and there's no sound to it Uh, so if you remember the old style had that sound and that I remember being like five when I got that done at my hairstylist And I got one side and didn't even want to do the other because I was so freaked out by the sound that it made It was just it was that Shooting thing that and my mom ended up having to get her ears pierced again, just so I would finish.

So that's really, I wanted to change. I wanted to change that for my clients, right? I wanted to give them this experience where they walk into my location and they felt very comfortable. They have this exciting interaction. We make it It's super fun. Like Callie does princess packages with hers and does tears and crowns and I do stuffed animals and candy and Capri Suns.

It's really what you want to make it. And we tell our students like, do what you want with this, run with this, because this is a core memory for children. that they never forget, and we want it to be an amazing one. And I get tons of referrals, so does Callie, for children, because they have such a good experience here.

They tell other friends that tell friends that tell friends. And so that's been a true game changer for the community, because now they have a place where they can Where they feel comfortable to bring their little ones.

Jen Thyrion: Yeah. I have to say here in Castle Rock, I can't think of anywhere other than a tattoo place, other than like Claire's right.

That you can get your ears pierced. And both of my girls, I got done, which can be controversial. Everyone has their own opinion about that. But both of them were around a year old when I got both my girls ears pierced. But we did at the pediatrician because to me it was like, that's the most comfy place, I guess.

But was it a great experience? Like having them lay on a doctor's like table? Not really. Right. Like it would have been so fun to go actually fast forward, like a couple of years, my friend also brought her daughter even younger into a place in Denver though. And it like just showed this beautiful experience and all these beautiful earrings she could choose.

And it was such a cute place. I'm like, Oh my gosh, I wish I would have looked further. I mean, granted it was outside of my immediate area, but like it was such a cool experience. And like. You know, we talk about that all the time with permanent jewelry. I mean, that's like, it's not only the jewelry, but of course it's the experience which makes it right.

So I love that because at least, you know, unless now Tenley's doing spray, which she also has a, she has a great place to go to now, but really I just, there was nowhere to go.

Kali Hammer: Yeah, I think that's kind of why we started, you know, I started looking for a place for my three year old to get her ears pierced and the tattoo shops around here didn't start until the age of eight because they want you to sign your name.

And then there was a Claire's, but it was like 25 minutes from me and it just didn't have a very good reputation from my girlfriends that have taken their kids there. So I was like, I feel like I could really, you know, fill a void in our community and bring something so that people aren't going out of town and they're staying local.

And I think that's what a lot of our students have done because they're seeing the same thing, you know, pediatricians offices, which they're using the device that we're using. So that is okay. I think that is a great experience, especially if you're doing it young and they're not bothering them, but, you know, creating that special experience for our clients is, it's just such an amazing thing to be a part of, you know, when you're actually like now, like today, I volunteered at my.

Kids school and I'll see the little girls that I pierced. And they're like, you know, miss Callie, look at my earrings. I got to change them out to the new ones. And they just like, it's just special that we got to be a part of that big milestone in their life. Because if you ask most women, unless they were pierced as babies, they remember exactly where they were when they got their ears pierced.

So it's just such a cool thing that we get to be a part of that and that our students get to be a part of that. in their lives.

Jen Thyrion: No, I agree. My girls now are four and six and they just like love changing out their earrings. Like it's a big deal, you know, like them going choosing their earrings and like, it's just such a fun experience, you know?

So I guess like my, okay, my hesitation always with like piercing, it makes me nervous to put a hole in someone's body.

Kali Hammer: Okay. We tell our students, this is the biggest thing, Jen, is that, you know, it's not permanent. It's not a tattoo. If for some reason you were to, you know, pierce them in the wrong spot, maybe where you didn't mark the dot, um, they can take it out immediately and it will heal up within days.

It's very, very quick. It's not permanent. You know, like we, um, I have a tiny tattoo artist in my salon and you know, if she makes a little oopsie, you can actually tell on there if there's a little oopsie, but with piercing. It's not permanent. So we tell our students that all the time, like, just remember, it's not permanent.

It's okay. If you feel like they're not even have them take it out and come back in a few weeks, make sure it's fully healed and then repears. It's not a big deal. Yeah. Just remember that.

Krissy Cressler: I think confidence is key, right? I think like you need to, we make sure our students. feel that confidence when they're done with their training and we do their model zoom time with them.

We want to make sure that they understand that. I remember the first time I did it, I was actually sick to my stomach. I'm like, I don't know. Can I do this? Can I do this? But once I did it, I was totally fine. And I had a few other girls waiting because I did a model day and I just kept bringing them in the room and I kept it.

And by the end of that model day, I'm like, Oh my gosh, I can do this. Like this is going to be perfect. So I think it just comes with knowing that. How do we, how do we say this in business and in life, there are fears, there are unknowns, you're never going to get rid of that, right? No matter what you start new, just like with permanent jewelry, the first time you do a weld on somebody, right?

You're a little nervous. You're like praying you don't hurt them or whatnot. So I think it's just the same thing. And our goal, Callie and I's goal is just to make sure that when we're training, Our students that they know that if they are struggling a little bit, it's okay. Come to us. Let us help you through that process.

Because the more you do it, the better you get, the more confidence you got. And

Jen Thyrion: that's why I think like trainings like this, going back to training, because even with like permanent jewelry, for example, you don't have to buy a training to do permanent jewelry and even with piercing, probably someone could find the, you know, would you call it?

You still call yours a gun, right? Is it? Yeah. Yeah. We call it a device

Kali Hammer: or an instrument, and I know that they, yeah, you can find them like, you can find online. You just can't guarantee they're not from China. I

Jen Thyrion: mean, but in the end, you could probably do that on your own, right? But like, for me, it's like, I just feel like having the support and the handholding and also like, any issues that come up, knowing that I have someone to ask and not do it all on my own.

And like, and just even just, again, those worries and those fears, because when you're starting something brand new and here, I have been like a business owner for quite a while and here, but honestly, I have to say, and usually it's those fears you have most likely again, they're just in your head. And once you do it, like you said, it's like, okay, this is fine, but it's helpful to have someone kind of hold your hand and help you through those things.

It saves you so much time and, you know, anxiety and like all the things. Because, you know, even with you helping reach out to your local health department, things like that, like that's so helpful and rather than doing trial and error on your own when you really don't want to do trial and error with something that important, like piercing, I feel.

I think

Kali Hammer: that's, that's what sets us apart because if you're, you know, if you're going through a big corporate company for your piercing training, I think, you know, you email customer service and you wait back a few days where, you know, our students always have access to Chrissy and I, they have our phone numbers, they have our email addresses, they have us on messenger.

And then we also have a closed. Facebook group for all of our students. So if they can't get ahold of us immediately, they can pop on our Facebook group and say, Hey, has anyone ever experienced this? Or Hey, I have a customer asking about this. Can anyone answer this? Um, usually they get an answer pretty quick if they don't hear back from one of us, then they'll get, you know, in that Facebook group and get some help.

Jen Thyrion: Okay. So speaking of when you guys have mainly, you guys really like the core of your businesses were spray tan, correct? When you started, I'm not knowledgeable about this, but when is like the slow times for spray? Okay.

Kali Hammer: Kind of kicks off around, I would say November through February. Don't you think Chrissy?

I mean, November kind of stays busy for me. I feel like I still have a lot of weddings and I still have holidays and stuff, but you know, once, at least in Ohio, it gets in Pennsylvania as well. I mean, it gets really cold in December. People don't tend to want to come out and undress and get tan with cold solution.

So I would say anywhere from November to February, and then it starts picking up with spring break and prom and that kind of stuff. So we definitely have a slow season, but. You know, piercing has been such a blessing because we sell a lot of gift cards. We sell a lot of, you know, for Christmas. It's a good thing to get your teenagers who you don't know what to buy for, but it's also been great for, you know, pop up events, holiday events, open houses.

We get a lot more foot traffic in because of the piercing and a lot of us carry retail and that kind of stuff. So that kind of boosts our retail sales as well. And we have our piercing clients come in.

Jen Thyrion: So let's just go back to your training. So obviously. You're assisting them and obviously piercing, but when it comes to like buying the earrings and things like that.

So you're, are you a source for that or are you kind of help find the, like, is it surgical steel?

Krissy Cressler: Right? So all of our stuff, once again, is manufactured in a medical grade facility. So we use the best of the best and we actually follow European standard guidelines on children's jewelry. And so. And even Chicago area, they have like the highest and we follow all of those.

So we'll use either surgical steel, we'll use the medical grade of stainless steel, um, titanium, and then we also have a gold plated, um, surgical steel. So all of our stuff is, is And so is our aftercare solution. And the best part is, and this is what Callie and I wanted. We, we wanted to make sure that our training also included a way for them to get these items because we knew that once they started, if you get those pop ups rolling and you have all of these events happening, cause we've had a lot of students that are doing amazing things with pop ups, they need to be able to get the supplies.

So we handle. All of the inventory. So we get stuff manufactured. We get it shipped in. It's in my hub in Pennsylvania. And so then you deal with me directly and my husband and my kids because they all help at this point. And so we need an extra helper, but we do all the inventory. So all your reorders come straight from the website.

So if there's like an issue or anything like that. They get a hold of me, we just kind of assess it and take care of it. But we love that part because it allows us to also keep up with trends, understand what's going on, you know, what are the styles that our girls are looking for? You know, can we get those, um, how can we better service them too, but also allow them to have new things to add to their clients that come in their doors.

So that has been you know, an exciting part because it's also allowed us to kind of have more communication, I would say, Kelly, um, with our students and then allows them to also go into that closed Facebook group and really do that interaction with each other too, which is great. Right. So how many different types of styles of earrings do you have currently?

I knew you were going to ask that. I just knew you were. Okay. So we have 10 styles that we will call our tried and trues. They are styles that will always stay because we know that they're very popular. We know that they're simple styles and those are what we call our 10 board option. We have two that we rotate that are what we would call a promotional one that will always stay.

It's like a pink flower. A pink star and that's just to give, you know, little kiddos and other choices. But we do have a variety of other, I would say right now, Ooh, you're going to put me to the test here. I want to say we probably have another 12 to 15 styles in inventory that you can also get that are different colors.

We have like a lavender right now. Now when those are out, they're out, right? So some things will come and go cause styles change, but we love to try to get some different color ones in for kiddos that like color options. We do have like a Ruby try one that we just recently got. So if you've ever seen like the earrings that are the cute little tries, we had that in silver.

I think when we were at PJX, I think we did, but now we have it in gold with Rubies, uh, like a red look. So it's really cute. So yeah, I mean, we're doing our best to kind of keep up with new things, but. Taking those and changing them a little so that we always have variety.

Jen Thyrion: So how do you deal with people that come, what do you tell your students when people come back with they get infected, like infections happen?

That also freaks me out a little bit. I'm not gonna lie to you.

Kali Hammer: Yeah, I think, you know, we really want our students to be educated on aftercare, Especially if they're doing pop ups, because we've, you know, we've noticed in this two years we've learned a lot. So you know, when we first got started, we would talk about aftercare, but then we were hearing some of our students were out there doing these huge pop up events, you know, let's say California or like large areas and they were piercing, you know, 30 to 40 people, but they were rushing through all of them and they weren't really going through the aftercare.

So we really make it a point to educate our students. Our students to make sure they're educating their clients on aftercare, because if you're properly caring for your ears, they shouldn't be infected. Now there is more of a chance of infection with your cartilage. That's just, that doesn't matter if you're getting pierced with our device or you're getting pierced with a hollow needle, there's a higher chance of infection, so that's also something you want to educate your clients on.

Watch for these things. And if you're, you know, if this is happening, this is what you should do. So our aftercare is amazing and it truly works. And it's actually a expedited kind of cleaner. So you can actually be fully healed on your lobes in three weeks and change it up to something else, which is kind of unheard of, but it's amazing.

And I've done it on my lobes. And they healed very quick. And I switched into, you know, our, we have some retail earrings as well. And those also are amazing, really good for sensitive ears. But as long as you're educating your clients on that, I mean, it doesn't fall on you because we have a form that they fill out, it talks about signs of infection and what to do.

And. We are not medical professionals, so we make sure to tell our students and tell their clients if you're seeing any of these signs. So, you know, swelling, redness, oozing, anything like that. Those are signs of infection. We want you to go to urgent care or reach out to your doctor because that's not our responsibility.

And a lot of times it comes down to them just properly not caring for their ears.

Jen Thyrion: Yeah. How long do you suggest someone to keep them in before they change them out?

Kali Hammer: So lobes with our, with our solution is three weeks, but actually it's usually six weeks. So I typically tell parents if they're kiddos, just to leave them in a little bit longer, just because you don't want to irritate them.

So six weeks for the lobes and 12 weeks for the cartilage, but actually the cartilage can take almost a full year for some people to fully heal. Um, if you've ever had your cartilage pierced, you'll know that, you know, you could be it one day accidentally on a shirt or you could bump it on something and all of a sudden it's almost back to the start.

You know, you kind of have to go through that whole process. So we make sure to give them a big old bottle of solution so that they have plenty of it to keep cleaning their ears. Even after they switch out, we recommend that they're continuing to clean them just like they were, um, in those first three weeks.

Jen Thyrion: I know I got end up getting my cartilage period. It's actually probably about a year now, but I got two at the same time. And I was seriously like, you know, you kind of let yourself. You know, anxiety. Oh my God. But it's like it hurt for so I was surprised and granted I haven't had a cartilage piercing since like 19, you know, so, but I was like, how much it how long it took to heal.

I was surprised by that now completely. I feel like I could change them out. No problem. But there was a time where I was. So close to taking them out because I was actually like, it shouldn't be hurting. Like I couldn't even sleep on my side, like for quite a while. So I think having that experience and if I were to pierce cartilage, I would share that story because like, I'm like, now they're fine.

And you know, it's, you know, but there is a time along and especially I would, I definitely kept on top of it with cleaning, but they were just sore for a long time. It felt, I felt like, Oh my gosh, are they ever going to heal? Yeah.

Kali Hammer: So

Jen Thyrion: two at a

Kali Hammer: time, more trauma at the same time. So. And we do

Krissy Cressler: our best to explain to all of our students, you know, how to explain that to a client.

Right. If somebody has never had a cartilage before, I'm usually, and they come in to me, I'm usually like, Hmm, let's just do one. Let's not do two. Right. Let's just start with one. Make sure that your body doesn't reject it. And then if you're doing okay, about three weeks into healing. Come back in, we'll do the other one and we'll build that curated, um, ear look because that's something that we really talk to our students about in our training is how do you upsell more piercings, right?

How do you get people back in your chair, um, to continue to do business with you? So we really focus on curated ear styling looks. Callie had already mentioned our retail line because we have the same manufactured in a medical grade facility. Piercing earrings, we also have retail earrings too, um, that are available to our students so that they can purchase them and sell them to their.

To their clients. So I think that it's just really important that when you're talking through, which we do in our training, we've been told, um, our new module training is really in depth and you get so much information. Uh, so that's exciting. So. The best part is, is when you're going through those modules, you can take some notes as you go and then we can go through questions on your live, um, model Zoom.

But I really think we go through that cartilage stuff very thorough because it is one of those things that a lot of people will experience and you really know how to, you know, how to handle that. Yeah. Like you

Jen Thyrion: said, if someone's body's rejecting, does that happen where literally they just, some people cannot get pierced in their cartilage?

Yeah.

Kali Hammer: I've never been able to have mine pierced. I've had it pierced, you know, multiple times with a hollow needle. I've had it done with our device and my body. And sometimes it's just, you know, some people just can't push through that pain all the way. Like, like you said, you were so close to taking yours out when they're throbbing and it's like, maybe I just don't want to deal with this throbbing anymore and I probably could have pushed through the pain, but I just didn't feel like I wanted to.

I just feel like some people's bodies just will naturally reject. Now I can get my nose pierced and my body does not reject my pain. That. So it's just, and I think it's probably, you know, we tell them, make sure you're piercing on the side. You don't sleep on well, I si I sleep on both sides. You know, we say get a donut pillow, like a travel pillow.

It kind of, the spot when we play it doesn't, it's not so bothersome. So, um, I could have probably done it one of the million times, had it pierce, but it just hasn't worked for me.

Jen Thyrion: Yeah, I hear you. Well, and that's the stuff that would be helpful again, like being a part of a training like that and having that support of running into issues like that.

And it's like, who do you turn to, to ask questions or something were to happen, you know? So once you add a piercing on a different thing, do you have both have permanent jewelry or just. Just me. Okay.

Kali Hammer: Yeah. Chrissy has someone that she brings into her salon that does the permanent jewelry. So she's got a buddy that was at PJX with us too.

Oh,

Jen Thyrion: sweet. What would you say? I mean, do you know off the top of your head, like percentage of like what you're bringing in for like each experience you offer? I probably

Kali Hammer: bring in more for permanent jewelry just because I can only pierce lobes. So I think, you know, if you were to ask a permanent jewelry artist that's able to pierce cartilage and noses, I think with pop ups, they're a little bit more successful than I would be.

You know? In my specific county, just because a lot of people come up that already have their first seconds and thirds done. And so we do these things called constellation piercing. So I will get a lot of those, which we did a lot of those at PJX. You know, I, I, when I do pop ups, I try to promote both. So if I know it's not going to be like a crazy pop up where there's hundreds of people, I'm like, I'm going to offer both because I can probably go back and forth.

And I would say I'd probably do more permanent jewelry and permanent. I'm the only person in this area that does permanent jewelry. So it's like. People are still learning what it is. They're like, what is that? Is that a piercing in your body? I'm like, no, no. Oh yeah. They, people are like still learning what it is here in Ohio.

So I do feel like it does really differentiate yourself as a permanent jewelry artist, because there's so many, like if, if I sign up for a market, you know, close by maybe like an hour from me, There are probably three, four permanent jewelry girls that are already signed up. So how do I make myself stick out is I add my, I bring my piercing stuff too.

So not only can you come up here and get a bracelet, but you can also leave with, you know, a little ear bling, a little constellation piercing or something fun. So I do think it's a great way for permanent jewelry artists to just stick out in the industry because it's starting to get saturated in areas, you know?

So this is something that can really make you stand out.

Krissy Cressler: Yeah. My area, there's a ton in my area. Yeah. a lot of permanent jury artists. And so it must have, it must have grew here very fast because every event that I go to, there's like multiples and they let multiples sometimes happen. And I know the girls get frustrated because there's so many at one event.

So I know a lot of them look to me because they'll see me at an event just piercing and they're like, Oh my gosh, like you are doing so much volume. Like you have so, so then that's how they kind of start talking to me. Do you think I could add this to absolutely you could because it lets you once again, like Kelly said, just stand out in what you're already currently doing and allows like new places that are searching for to bring people in for pop ups.

It allows them to see you now to, to say, Ooh, that's not just traditionally, you know, perminatory. Oh, they have something different with that. So I think that's kind of nice. Right.

Jen Thyrion: It is helpful. Like even for me, um, I'm currently right now, I'm mobile. So I don't have like a brick and mortar yet, but I do charm bar in a pretty extensive charm bar along with permanent jewelry.

So sometimes when I, you know, they're full of permanent jewelry artists or whatnot, I'm like, well, I can come with charm bar. Like, you know what I mean? Like, that's something that I can offer that. So. It does give you like, even if you were just to be piercing somewhere. I mean, that's actually what's happening with Tenley.

Like I said, she came to our event. Well, she does permanent jewelry, but I was doing permanent joy at that event. So she did something else. And like, so, you know, there's no holding her back from talking about the fact she does permanent jewelry at her place of business, but. It's just great because even if someone were to come to you for permanent jewelry and they don't want a piercing maybe at that second, but they just know you do it, you know, it's like more of a reason and experience to bring to come back and see you, you know, and if someone's like, well, does anyone know piercing in the area?

Like, actually, I went to this permanent jewelry location and they do piercing. Hey, busy entrepreneur. As you know, being a business owner, you have to wear all the hats. You're a social media manager, marketer, graphic designer, accountant, photographer, videographer, web designer, business coach, scheduler. And the list goes on.

I know how overwhelming it can be, and this is why I created the Goldilocks Society. It's our monthly permanent jewelry membership. We have a weekly call to talk about all the things, but not only that, including monthly photography and video to use for your social media and marketing, Canva templates, monthly business.

monthly training support group, discount and first dibs on Goldilinks supplies, and more. My intention is to create a beautiful community of permanent jewelers that want to level up their businesses together by creating lasting friendships and having fun. This is what I wish existed when I started my business almost 10 years ago.

If you want to know more, check it out at goldilinkssociety. com or at allthethingspermanentjewelry. com. I hope to see you there. Let's talk profit actually. Cause we know a profit margins just in permanent jewelry. Let's talk about profit when it comes to piercing.

Kali Hammer: I'm going to let Chris talk about this.

Chris, he's my

Krissy Cressler: numbers. This is my favorite part. I'm such a numbers person. It's kind of crazy. I think I drive Callie nuts sometimes with it, but at the end of the day, you know, how do I want to say this business and life can be a rollercoaster, right? There's so many ups and downs. There's so many unknowns being a business owner, but at the end of the day, the things that we can control is that bottom dollar.

Like we can control those numbers if we know the numbers. So we know how to because if you don't know your numbers, You can't hit your goals. So when it comes to piercing, depending on the area that you're in, obviously we tell our students, do some research. Understand what body piercers are charging near you.

Understand what Eclair's or Piercing Pagoda is charging. Get to understand that first. Because obviously my little town, Callie's little town, is going to be completely different to the girls that we've trained in LA, or in Dallas, Texas, or in Denver, Colorado. Those girls have a higher volume of people, and more median income is higher there, so they can obviously charge more.

So, when somebody walks in my doors to get just like one single piercing, which is one hole, is how I explain this, because some people get confused. I charge 50 now. I started at 40. but I'm two years into this. Well, actually two and a half, right? So it's, I'm charging, you know, 50 now. And I used to charge for doubles, which would be two, right?

Eight or 70. Now I charge 80. And then my first time kilos. Now I used to charge 80. I charge 90 because I include a bunch of goodies and stuffed animals and candies and drinks. Once again. You're your business owner. You can do what you want and charge what you want based on your area, and I didn't start at those prices either, right?

I worked my way up. But the most expensive earring that you're going to purchase from the website, from us directly, is 10, and a bot of solution is 3. So you're in 13 at the most expensive earring. So do the math. Okay. And that's a box of two earrings. So if you're only doing the one, once again, the money is there, the return on investment, the profit margins are completely there.

And we wanted to make sure with our training that we charged a price that was affordable to somebody that is looking to get started, you know, coming up when this slow season or something's just happening in our business where they're not being able to create the money that they really want. Okay.

allow them to purchase this training. We have a shop pay as an option on our website, which is nice if somebody can't afford to buy it all up front, but they also get a kit and they get a kit where they could go out and pierce 20 to 24 people. And if they were to use everything in their kit and charge, even my low numbers that I used to charge, they'll well make over 17, 1, 800 with their kit.

And the training and kit was only 899. So do the math. That ROI is huge straight out of the gate, even if you choose not to do anything else with it. But if you do choose to continue piercing, take some of that profit, go back onto the website, order some of the popular styles that you've noticed and get started again and get those pop ups booked in and start booking those things at your studio if you have one.

private parties or whatnot, and really start watching that money roll in. I think the biggest success story that I have heard from one of our students was that she was able, she was a spray tan artist too, part time, she had a full time job, she has little kiddos, and she took our training, and she decided to go at this training.

And just put everything into it. Right. Started right away doing pop ups, doing piercing in her shop. And next thing you know, she quit her full time job, completely retired herself from that, said, I am done. She took the profits that she made in one month, which I'm pretty close. It was around 13, 000, Callie, I think she built herself a little like tiny, like she shed type business set up in front of her house now with all of her profits.

And she now has this little place where people can come to her. She still does spray tanning. Absolutely. But it's not her main thing anymore. Piercing is, I think she even did a pop up while she was on her family vacation. Cause she said to me, Chrissy, I don't have a job anymore. Right? So obviously I'm not getting that vacation time.

She researched where her family vacation was going to be. She found a pop up on a Saturday and took four hours away from her family. That's it for hours and made enough money. To pay for a whole week's worth of income while she was on vacation. So when somebody tries to say, well, I don't know if that's going to be a smart service.

I don't know if I could do that. I listen. There are people out there taking this course, literally changing their lives where she makes tens of thousands of dollars now just piercing. I mean, to me, that's pretty exciting. And to know that, you know, it was, you know, Callie and I who just sat together one day and thought, can we do this?

It's kind of one of those moments where you feel You feel empowered because you know that there was a reason, if that makes sense. Like, you know that there was something that was brought to you for a reason, and it was really just to help other, you know, women out there to succeed in life and feel valued, appreciated, feel important in their community, and then offer those services back out to their clients that now Want to always come back to them.

So I think that's huge. As you can see, I'm pretty

Jen Thyrion: passionate. And that's exactly how I feel about like, obviously this industry in general, I mean, permanent jewelry, granted, it's even easier to travel when do piercing, I have to say, depending on your permanent jewelry setup. But I mean, I done the same thing.

Like I'll, I'll go home to Michigan where I'm from. Originally, I bring all my permanent jewelry. I have a pop up, I have a friend party. And then I'm like, I'm actually making money. I'm not, I'm paying above, you know, Like I'm making above what I spent to like travel, you know what I mean? So if you really take advantage of those things, but also speaking of this woman who, but she went out and like, they didn't come to her is what I got to say.

You know what I mean? Obviously she went out there and just started like, you know, she worked her business and that's amazing. She's a

Kali Hammer: hustler. I mean, she books these pop ups every weekend. She has them going. I mean, she is. She's doing amazing things. I mean, better than I, I'm like, I don't really, I kind of, you know, I'm focused on a lot of other things, but like for her just to go a hundred percent and go all in, and she's like, I still spray tan, but it's not as much.

Like she has a passion too, for doing this. And she truly loves it. And that is what feels, fills our heart that we were able to light that passion for her.

Jen Thyrion: I know. I mean, not only are you helping women, like obviously have this, you know, amazing her story of quitting her job and doing something she loves, but it's really cool, like how, She's offering this to her community.

Like I have to say, because, you know, even going back to me and like not really knowing anywhere to bring my daughters, like if I knew of a place again, that was local, that was fun, or if I went to an awesome like event that was downtown here and someone was doing piercing, like, you know, it's just because it's one of those things.

I live in an area where there's a lot of young families and that's why we host this event. We do twice a year because it's kind of like, it's geared towards, it's a Tuesday night. It's geared towards like moms who just want to go out and have fun and have a night out. Because when do you ever do that?

Yeah. It's piercing tattoos, like all these things that you kind of want to do, but you're not going to make time for yourself to do it, you know? So it's just nice that like the structure of like popping up, doing piercing, which you really weren't seeing as much, you know, before I feel like it wasn't something you would just see at a festival or something.

You would have to seek it out. You'd have to seek it out and go to a tattoo place or go to a Claire's, which most people do not want to go to Claire's and have a, a 15 year old piercing your ears, you know? So, so it's just, it's kind of cool that this is being, it's actually becoming more, I don't want to say, you know, it's just more customary maybe a little bit or just like letting it be something that's easier accessible to people in the piercing.

So that's awesome. So Kelly, what are you charging over there in Ohio? Is it around the same? I

Kali Hammer: charge, I charge 70. Yep. I'm in a really small town, so I charge 70 for two and I do, um, 40 for one, which I rarely get 40 unless I have like a constellation piercing. But, um, but yeah, I still, I do my princess. I'm known as like the princess piercing lady.

So all the kids. A crown and I do, they each get to pick a ring and we do like a little certificate of bravery for them. They get a sucker, we get their picture. So it's just, you know, like when I, I remember getting mine done, I don't think, I think now Claire's does like a little paper crown or something that's cutesy, but, um, I don't remember getting any of that stuff.

No,

Jen Thyrion: that is such a cool experience because even like, When children come to me for permanent jewelry, which of course not everyone does permanent jewelry, but a lot of on, on clasps, I have to say for bracelets for, uh, for young girls, I do, I give out these like little light up rings to all the little girls that come and like, and they just love it.

Like it's such an added little thing that they just think is so cool, you know? So. It's those added things. Like you said, that experience, like that's something that parent, like, I know I would keep that like their, your ear ears pierce a picture of you wearing a crown and they'll have their certificate.

I mean, that's so cool. I love that. That is so amazing. My gosh. No, I

Kali Hammer: feel like we're, you know, we're that boutiques are really Adding it and they're having a great team because a lot of boutiques are struggling. So it's getting a lot of more foot traffic in their boutiques. And we've released, um, just recently we released a foot soak training.

So our girls that are in salon spaces or, you know, spaces where they can do foot soaks, um, it's a foot detox training, which has been, you know, big for Chrissy and I, since we've started those. And, um, now we have permanent jewelry artists asking about spray tan training. So we have like lots of really fun, exciting things.

We're kind of, we're, we're rebranding a little bit because. People know us as Pierce by Globe, but eventually we'll probably be PBG because we're going to kind of have just more beauty training services that, that people can add on and just make more money because we struggle with that slow season. And I think everybody kind of has a little bit of a slow season.

So what can you do to help your revenue during those slow times?

Jen Thyrion: And I think too, when it's like, because I'm in retail, you know, I have a boutique location still. And I think a lot of the retail right now is very slow for sure. And everyone's like election year, all the things, right. I think that when your business is more focused on experience though, that does set you apart a little bit, but tell me more.

Did you say foot soaks? Yeah, so foot. You

Kali Hammer: hear that right? Like what is that? Yeah, Chrissy is, uh, Chrissy does a lot of these in her salon. So I'll kind of let her kind of chat about them, but it's, it's a great, easy service to add on if you have a location.

Krissy Cressler: Yeah, it's been a, once again, It, you know, I think maybe a lot of us experience this.

If we were business owners through the COVID days and I hate them when we all talk about it, but it was such a pivotal point because it really helped us to understand as business owners, what do you have to do to not get so down and out on your business because things were changing. Right. And I, I kind of looked to it as pivoting, making little pivots in my business, not changing my business, but making pivots that were going to benefit my clients.

And every time I put something in my mind that said, okay, how can this help my client? I was like, all right, we're on the right, we're on the right path. And it got me excited again about being in my place of business and making these things happen. So foot soaks were one of those things that is more of a wellness service, right?

We can't make medical claims, obviously, because we are not medical caregivers and we're not professionals like that. But what we can do is offer a wellness service. And so these are detox foot soaks. They come in, they have a nice seat and we have these massaging chairs. I offer, um, aromatherapy diffusers near them.

They get neck warming wraps that are either lavender or peppermint. They go in this bath of water with special foot soak salts. And depending on what they're looking for, whether they want some energy or they want to relax or they want to restore their body, they're able to choose that. I offer them a bottle of water and they just kind of relax.

I now have red light therapy lamps beside them if they want to use it. It's all this luxury experience to just sit and detox because let's just think about this. We take toxins in our body every day, right? It's unfortunate, but we do in our environment and our foods. And so a lot of people struggle with inflammation.

They struggle with aches and pains. They struggle with sleepless nights. Those are the biggest things that I hear of concerns. And when you start to do these foot detoxes, you can start to feel better. better. And it's crazy how the clients will come in and say, man, I slept for once. I haven't slept that good in a long time.

And so guess what? They book another one because it doesn't last forever, right? It only lasts potentially a few days, maybe a week. So then they're doing another foot soak because they just felt so good. And so I got to the point where I was telling Callie, Like I have VIP memberships where people can soak, um, for half price, it allows them to come in more often.

But this was one of those things where it gave my business more money, right, in those times where business typically was slow for spray tanning. And it allowed my clients that were with me already to do something new through the off season with me, but also I have a whole nother clientele walking in my doors now that never once spray tanned with me.

never once. And now they're coming in for foot soaks. And so my mom actually helps me out. And so she comes in now, I've trained her on foot soaks and teeth whitening. And so she does all these things too. But we wanted to offer this training because we had so many of our students asking us like, what are you doing with that?

And how's that working? And Kelly and I were like, why not? Why not put this together again with simple strategies? videos to watch and then the links to purchase it all. And then we are working on the luxury things, right? So we want to be able to house the salts for the soaks. We want to be able to house a couple other fun luxury things for the girls where they'll buy them from us.

But the majority of it now is where they can just go to clickable links and get started. Um, so that's something really new, but it's taking off very well because once again, we're in that time of year. where sicknesses are kind of prevalent right now, colds with, you know, those types of things. So it's, it's just another good service to offer.

So how are you charging for those, that kind

Jen Thyrion: of service?

Krissy Cressler: Yeah. So currently right now, my pricing, so I charge for somebody to come in and just foot soak standard, um, is 40. And then if they do a bring a friend, I do a big bring a friend it's 70, but for the fall right now, I'm running a special of 60. So I'm getting a ton of people in, but my VIP package, they can.

Pay 20 a month on autopay and as long as they're on autopay with 20 a month, they unlock half price foot soak. So instead of 40, it's 20. And so that's why now they're coming in every week because 20 bucks is like, well, I'll pay 20 bucks to feel good. Right? How long do they soak for? Yeah, 30 minutes.

Sometimes mine might go around 40 because my mom gives a little extra time in between switching things, but typically 30. Yeah, that's really cool.

Kali Hammer: Yeah, and you can do two at once. Actually, Chrissy and I both have two machines, so we can soak four people during the same 30 minutes. So you can actually, you know, not only double, but you can quadruple, and you can have four people in there.

We've made it like parties in the winter time. I did like a lot of teachers came in and they did little soap parties and they brought snacks in and it's just another, it's something different to do. You know, people are, that's what I say, like about permanent jewelry, about your piercing. Like we're doing something different.

That's not the standard. Let's go out and have a glass of wine. Like rather than men, you can have a glass of wine while you're so.

Jen Thyrion: Sure. But you also do like, I can say when you, when you get to a certain age, you know, whatever that is for you, or you have kids, like, it's like, yeah, going out with your girlfriends.

Like you do want to do something different. You don't want to just go to a bar. You know what I mean? Like, it just, it's not as appealing. Right. But you want to like, spend time together. But you want a cool experience and I'm just thinking if you do have a brick and mortar, let's say, and you can set this up like the idea of people coming in because a lot of people don't want to also to that's very hard to like obviously do mobily that kind of thing.

But, you know, even if it's a lot of people don't want to host, you know, so it's, it's so great to be able to host in a different, you know, in a different way. setting, you know what I mean? Like host something, invite your girlfriends, but here we're going to do it at this, at this place of business. And you can get a jewelry or you can get a piercing or you can soak or like everyone just hangs out and like kind of does their own thing and you can get sprayed or whatever, you know?

So I think like self care and having an awesome experience like that always wins. You know, I just don't think, I mean, there's always any ebbs and flows with business. We know that, but I think. expanding like you are, but also it's under the same umbrella. It's not like you're offering, like, you know, fixing your car while you get it

Krissy Cressler: right.

No oil changes. We're not teaching.

Jen Thyrion: But it's like, it's all related and it's all like targeting. Same kind of person, you know? Right. I mean, I just think about it. I'm like, yeah, that sounds fun. Like I didn't even think like, yes, I want to go like soak my feet. Yes, please. Like that sounds amazing. Well,

Krissy Cressler: I think too, you, you hit the nail on the head when you said about self care, a lot of people are talking about the economy right now and you know, people not spending as money as much and whatnot, but.

What I'm finding is self care is so vital right now that people are still spending money in our services, which I know a lot of us were really scared for a while. Like, are we going to be the ones they cut first? Like we're not a necessity, but what I'm finding is because we offer These services in a welcoming environment where like you said, women want to come and be a part of something different.

They want to get together with their girlfriends. Like we are able to now give them this and they are still coming now. So, and they're still spending money regardless of what service they're doing. Right. So I think it's just when you're looking at adding an add on to your existing task, figure out what that add on looks like for you.

You know, financially, what do you need to make? What are the numbers that you need to make? Also, what is feasible for you? You know, are you just mobile or are you in a brick and mortar? Kind of looking to that is why Callie and I are growing our, you know, beauty professional trainings and adding more. So you guys are going to see more before the end of the year.

Um, hopefully two more trainings, right, Callie, but just allowing women or men, of course, but to understand that there's more to this, right? There's, it's really whatever you're looking to add. There is a

Jen Thyrion: way I know. And what do you said? Like people at different times. And that's why it's, we live in a time.

I think people, things are evolving so fast. People are still spending money, but it's like, I think what they are valuing is what they're spending money on and correct me from wrong. I do feel like self care isn't going anywhere. And I think the more that we are inundated with like. Just so busy and social media and all the things.

It's like we need to shut off our minds, you know, so I think like anything lending to that, adding ease to our lives and, you know, just kind of escaping for a little bit is just, you know, I think is going to win for a very long time because that's why, you know, I think about permanent jewelry. I'm like the ease of it as of what I'm attracted to.

Like I love, you know, just, and it's just obviously it's customized. It's personal, like the, these kinds of things that you can't Where else you can't buy that on Amazon, right? So it's like offering these things that you can't buy on Amazon, you know, I think when it comes down to because like retail locations, let's say a boutique, right?

It's like, sure. Like, obviously they're, you know, they offer amazing clothing, nothing against them. I have a boutique. So it's like, I understand, but people can buy that stuff on Amazon. You know what I mean? Like it's, it's something that they can access on an experience. You can't get on Amazon, so I think that that is something to always kind of come back to.

It's like, what can I offer that's different and like that they can't just get anywhere kind of thing. So, and I think you guys are doing an amazing job. I mean, this is awesome.

Kali Hammer: Yeah, we forgot to mention is. We schedule out a half hour for our ear piercing clients, but typically it can take like five to 15 minutes.

It kind of depends on what you're doing, but like with the pop ups, I mean, I've done pop ups where it's been three hours and I've done, you know, 35 piercings. So, um, that's another thing to remember. It's just like permanent jewelry being very quick. You know, if someone's coming in and getting a bracelet, I don't, I mean, I, sometimes I'll schedule out 30 minutes and they'll bring a friend or they'll be like, Ooh, I want another one just for my booking purposes.

I have to do that for my booking site, but for the most part, it's very, very quick. And then if they do bring a friend in another, they might be like, Ooh, I want to get my ears pierced too. So we, we typically book out a half hour, but it's a lot quicker, just like PJS.

Krissy Cressler: Yeah, I think I, I booked a pop up one time every 15 minutes I had them book me and even in between I had walk ins and because you know, I was So seasoned at that point, I would get the walk ins in between and I was there for maybe three hours and walked out with 1, 200.

I mean, it was a great day and that's not, and that's typical of what our girls are doing. That's not just something that's like, that's typical of what these girls are doing in that timeframe. So just kind of think about permanent jewelry on top of, you know, add that piercing on top of. That's a game changer financially.

It's complete game changer. It's, it's a matter of potentially needing a pop up every weekend to maybe only needing two a month. You know, you might be able to now have more time with your family because you can add more to that pop up and create more money in that time than stretching it out. So these are just things to consider whenever you're looking at adding a service, once again, back to that dollar, like what do you need?

And, and how are you going to get there?

Jen Thyrion: Right. Do you have any experience or a situation you can share of a student that like went through the training and actually didn't really go forward with it or wasn't it successful, I guess, and why they weren't successful? Is there any story that comes to

Krissy Cressler: mind?

There's one in particular, Callie, that comes to mind right away. We had a girl, um, recently reach out to us. She took our training probably last year and she reached out and. Just had to thank us for being diligent and for staying active in the group for being available anytime she had questions because she finally did her first pop up and it was such a success.

She ran out of supplies. She had to order more and she just wanted to thank us for being there for her through it because, you know, obviously one of my biggest fears is, you know, what if somebody takes the class and does nothing with it? But let's be honest, at the end of the day, I've been in leadership development, personal development.

I've done trainings and coaching for many years for women. And there are a lot of times that people will buy something and do nothing with it. At the end of the day, we just have to know, Callie and I have to know that we're offering more than just that training. We are offering that customer service.

We're offering that Extra hand out when you need it and we're available to you. And that's something that was really important to us. And to just hear that story, it let us know that if somebody sets their mind to it after they've purchased it and they've let it sit, they can always pick it back up and they can always start making money with it.

It's never too late. And that's huge. And we'll even take our time to get on a model Zoom again if need be, if too much time has passed to make them feel comfortable. So I think. When listeners are listening to this back, I think the biggest thing that they're going to hear is value, you know, value and what we offer with our training.

Kali Hammer: Can I read her message, do you think, without saying her name? Yeah, sure. I feel like she's, so the interesting thing about her too, is she is a permanent jewelry artist and she signed up pretty early on with us, like when we first started and then we ended up signing up. Seeing her at PJX and she was like, you know, I really need to start doing this.

Like watching you guys do it. I need to do it. So she sent this just, uh, about a week ago. She said, Hey, so it's been a while. I haven't been piercing as much. So I figured I, here's a good update for you guys. A few weeks ago, I was asked to do an event for piercing. I was recommended from another boutique that I've never popped up at.

was in a small town of about:

Overall, the sales from the event were 50 50. The owner said she wanted me back. And I have a lot more because I have a lot more to offer. And it's something different and new in my area. Um, no one near me does this. I feel very comfortable now doing first seconds and thirds. I'll be back there for black Friday.

I went through a lot of styles you initially sent me. So I'll be restocking very soon. Although it took me, it took me one year to be comfortable. I finally did it. So Chrissy and I responded that we were both really proud of her. And, you know, and we tell our students, if you're just comfortable with lobes, then just offer lobes.

I said, easy. You know, I have a lot of kids. I have a lot of moms. I have even like grandmas that come in. They're like, I haven't worn earrings in my seconds for 30 years. So like. You know, if that's what you're comfortable with, rock with it, because as long as you are confident in yourself, you're going to do really, really well with this business.

Jen Thyrion: Totally. I mean, it just shows like what you would obviously like anything, what you put in is what you get out. Right. So like, I love that you said that because even permanent jewelry, I think people think they need to like do it all. I mean, there's some chains are a little bit more difficult. They might not want to have that selection.

That's okay. Like get confident with your welding first. And then you're just going to keep the more you do it, the better you get. You're going to get more confident and be like, okay, lobes. Seems so easy now, like of course, I'll move on to cartilage. That's awesome. Okay, thanks. I think

Kali Hammer: my welder sat in the box for like three months and Lindy was probably like, she was finally like, Callie, it is time to get your welder out.

You spent a lot of money on this training, a lot of money on your welder. Let's get going. But it's just like, I mean, I was just as nervous to start permanent jewelry as I was to start piercing because. You know, jump rings are very small. It's very intimidating to close the jump ring and make sure you're doing it properly and welding properly.

And then you have all these other people out there not doing it properly. And like, so we're trying to keep a good reputation. So it's feel like it's the same thing. Like I did sit on my permanent jewelry stuff. I told Chrissy, I was like, I don't know if I can do this. I don't know. And then once I got going, I'm like, Oh my gosh, this is amazing.

I love meeting people. It's easy. It's fast. My profit margins are amazing. So it's very, very similar with the, with the piercing as well. Love it. Oh my gosh.

Jen Thyrion: Well, any advice you'd give to someone who's like thinking about starting this or, um, just considering it. And they're like, they're like really intrigued right now, listening to you.

What would you say?

Kali Hammer: I'd say reach out to us if you are, you know, if you have questions, we are here to answer any questions that you have. But I mean, what's the loss in doing it? You know, we have the, we have the shop pay, they can pay over for payments. They can use what they have in their kit. And if they decide they don't want to do it, they don't have to continue it.

But truly, it is a blessing for a lot of the businesses out there, especially our PJ. I feel like so many of our PJ students that signed up with us at PJX are just doing amazing things with their business and it's really helped them grow and just stick out in the market. So, you know, if you are considering it, feel free to reach out to Chrissy and myself, and we're happy to, you know, set up a zoom call with you, answer any questions that you have.

Like we want our students to feel comfortable when they sign up and excited, and then we recommend just doing a launch party. The holidays are the perfect time to do this. You guys, like we have all these things coming up. All these pop ups are coming up. Do this and do a launch party and you're going to kill it.

You're going to make your money back. We have a lot of students who make their money back before they even paid that initial, you know, that investment with shop. Hey, so we have a lot of students who have said, you know, I jumped right in. I did a launch event, all my money was made and I was able to order more retail for my next launch, so, or my next pop up event.

Krissy Cressler: Absolutely. I think at the end of the day, it's really important that you just take the time, right, take the time, research it a little bit with us. Kind of get a hold of us, talk through all of your questions. We have an amazing website, piercebyglow. com. And then we take our training. Once you purchase that, it's over onto our training platform.

Uh, there's so much information there. I would, I would tell somebody if they are looking for something that In the next few months because holidays are here now is the time because I look back to when we started doing this Callie and it was holidays. I had my biggest day ever. I just started. It was in a November.

I remember messaging Callie when I got finished at my place because I couldn't even use the restroom. I was that busy. There were lines at my door. And when I was done, I messaged her and I'm like, you are never going to believe how much money I made today. Like this is amazing. And that's the day that I knew.

That we couldn't keep this to ourselves. We had to find a way to share it with other people because there's other people out there praying for more. And how do we figure it out? How do we bridge the gap? And this is it. So I would say, you know, get your info, get ahold of us, talk to us, but don't delay.

Because the holidays are right around the corner. I mean, heck what? Halloween's next week already. I can't even wrap my head around that. So, you know, I would just say do it and why not take a chance? I mean, let's be honest. You've probably taken chances on way more expensive things in your life and did nothing with them.

I mean, I know I have, I know I have. So if you can make money, why

Jen Thyrion: not? Exactly. I love it. Um, PJX next year? We haven't decided yet. We just saw the

Kali Hammer: dates and May is a very busy, busy time for spray tan artists because it's true. Kind of the, the height of prom season, at least for me and Chrissy. Um, so yeah, it's, it's a big, big month.

And then mother's day too, we get really busy with like, I generally do an event that weekend because it's in between mother's day. And so people will come, you know, and celebrate the weekend after. So we're going to see, we're going to see, but I think it's just, Busy time for us. Yeah,

Jen Thyrion: it was fun. I got a constellation piercing with you guys.

It was cool. I know. Those are like my favorite. They're so popular. Oh my gosh. I love them. It's so funny. I'm like, I felt like I didn't even know what that was until I, I was like, what? Oh, that's an amazing idea because I do have, I know Ready. I'm like, yeah, let's fit another one in there. You know? I know. I was the impulse

Krissy Cressler: and those are the impulse piercing buys that you get a lot at popups.

It's the best ever. Like we have a little lookbook and we share with how to like create that on our training. And my lookbook sits out at all of my popups and that. is like everybody points to it. They're like, Oh, I want that. Oh, I want that.

Jen Thyrion: I know. It's so cute. I love it. Oh, wait, where can we find you? We want to reach out.

Where do we find you on social and all the things?

Kali Hammer: So Pierce by glow. com is our website. And then we have a Pierce by glow Instagram. So you can DM that. And I'm in charge of that. We On Facebook right now, we just have a closed private group. So a lot of people will find us and try to add to the group, but it's actually just for our students.

So that may be changing soon, but definitely keep an eye on our Instagram page, because we're getting ready to release a training, hopefully in the month, that's going to also be really good for the holidays. And we just feel like all these amazing trainings can really just change your business up. So at least start following us on Instagram, feel free to send us a DM.

You know, we can give you phone numbers or anything else that you would need to put out with this podcast as well.

Jen Thyrion: Okay. Well, thank you for taking the time today. This was amazing. Yes. It was great. Thank you so much. I need to start piercing like soon. Yes, she do. Yes. Yes, girl.

Kali Hammer: If you roll in for the holidays and your boutique, I feel like for your boutique, when we were on our way to PJX, we, I had certified someone at the airport, like on our zoom call and she was a boutique owner and she had 60 people on her wait list.

Oh, crazy. She's like, she's like, Callie, this is such a game changer for my boutique because I've been so slow. I think more people are shopping on Amazon and she's like, I'm getting so much more foot traffic now. So even if you don't consider it for your PJ business, maybe just your boutique business could benefit too.

So for

Jen Thyrion: sure. Okay. Well, thank you ladies. It gives you a lot to think about. For sure. This has been really great. Okay. Awesome. Sure. We'll be talking to you soon. so much. This was great.
